Sport Premium Funding
The Department for Education has set aside significant sums of money to promote improved provision for PE in Primary Schools. We receive funding under this scheme against the numbers of pupils in our Year 5 and Year 6. The report here sets out how the department has spent this income and its plans for future spending against promised future income.
PE at Holywell
At Holywell we pride ourselves on our excellent standards of teaching in PE. Holywell is used relatively heavily to support teacher training of future PE teachers – generally four students will be in the department during the course of an academic year.
The Physical Education Department is committed to giving all pupils at Holywell School knowledge of, and experience in, a wide variety of activities in accordance with the National Curriculum.
Our high quality Physical Education programme is designed to increase the physical competence, health-related fitness, self-responsibility and enjoyment of physical activity for all students so that they can be physically active for a lifetime.
We offer a board and balanced PE timetable so pupils can experience a wide variety of different sports.
As part of our outstanding extra-curricular timetable we offer a vast variety of clubs to pupils before school, at lunchtime and after school. The School employs outside coaches to enhance the timetable and offer pupils more opportunities for specialist coaching. We also have excellent School club links with many external local clubs.
As part of our strong House system and values based education we hold regular House competitions throughout the year in Football, Netball, Rugby, Cross Country, Rounders, Athletics, Cricket and Tennis. Matches against other schools are played regularly and we are proud of our overall success. Many of our teams have achieved excellent results in our Partnership leagues, County tournaments and we have experienced Regional and National success. We understand the importance of involving all pupils in sports and pride ourselves on sport for all by having A, B and C teams for many of the sports that we teach.
Our core values in PE promote a love of learning to pupils, the importance of a Healthy Active Lifestyle, to continually improve - win or lose, and the ability to accept winning or losing gracefully as part of that search for continuous improvement.
